Connie Jorsvik, Speaker

Connie Jorsvik’s passion is public education, offering in-person and virtual healthcare planning education to corporate and community groups. With a knack for making meaningful connections with audiences, she presents practical advice on a wide range of topics such as how to plan in advance for healthcare emergencies, discuss end-of-life wishes with loved ones including MAiD (Medical Assistance in Dying), and support aging parents with increasing needs.

Connie knows how to engage a crowd with relatability and good humour. Her down-to-earth approach engages groups from the moment she begins, leaving her guests empowered with tools and critical information that will serve them and their loved ones long after the event.

As an RN for 25 years in maternity, cardiac medical and surgical care in one of BC’s busiest cardiac centres, Connie has a solid foundation of understanding in navigating the complex and fragmented BC healthcare system.

In 2011, Connie transitioned to being an independent healthcare navigator, advocate and educator. As one of Canada’s first independent navigator-advocates, she has supported hundreds of patients and their care partners in their journeys through serious illness and end of life, by way of customized advance care-planning, medical document organization including Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD), and care management services.

Connie is the author of Advance Care Planning: Prepare for Serious Illness, and Navigating the BC Healthcare System. Additionally, her website PatientPathways.ca offers some of the most thorough education on advance care planning and healthcare navigation available online.

Connie is the former National Advance Care Planning Coordinator for Dying with Dignity Canada.

  • "Connie’s presentation on Advance Care Planning and her accompanying resources were excellent and have really motivated participants to go beyond ‘wanting’ to address ACP to getting on with it, by giving them the practical knowledge and tools to do so! She is highly experienced in this field and while her presentation is as clear and articulate as one could hope for, she also delivers it with warmth, compassion and good humour. Participants were engaged and grateful and the feedback from those attending has been overwhelmingly positive!"

  • "WOW…..we did it. I have felt fear in the last year about the what ifs??? not realizing there is an answer. And the answer for me is getting things in order, taking care of the ‘last dance’. I am so incredibly grateful for... such a gift, and for YOU for walking me through it. I felt such freedom admitting that I cannot do this alone, that if I am going to do this I want to be assured I have done it right, and for you being there to provide that help."
